New Orleans, Day 2

Have I mentioned yet how much I LOVE New Orleans?  In case you missed the point, I love New Orleans.  Seriously.  In love. Anyway...

Yesterday was the longest day out we've spent in a long time.  I got up really early because apparently New Orleans is in a different time zone than the east coast.  Eric followed suit rather quickly, and we made our way out into the city.  We took the trolley (yay!) down Canal Street to the river and took the Algiers ferry.  It's totally free, and kind of silly.  However, it prevents people from having to drive over the bridge and gives touristy folk like ourselves a way to look at the French Quarter from the water without having to pay for one of those pricey steamboat rides.

After our little boat ride, we got some breakfast.  We ate beignets and pralines.  The beignets were yummy, but kind of like a big zeppole.  The pralines were way to sweet for both of us.  Maybe you have to be a native New Orleanian to enjoy them...

After breakfast, we wandered around by the river for a while, checked out the open market, then hopped on the St. Charles line through the garden district.  It is so beautiful over there, and the houses are huge!! The trolley is a great way to see parts of the city that we otherwise would have missed.  I highly recommend riding around aimlessly for a while if you ever visit.  It's cheap, fun, and pretty!

There were trees literally growing out of this building!
