Augusta

Yesterday, we traveled from Atlanta to Augusta.  Why Augusta? Well, because that's where James Brown is from, and Eric wanted to check it out.  Plus, it's about half way between Atlanta and Charleston. (We are heading to Charleston today.)  We found a really cute old town full of historical buildings that sits right on the Savannah river.  Unfortunately, most of those buildings seem to be in disuse, and the main area of the town could use a bit of revitalization.  It's a shame, because it seems like this town was really beautiful in its heyday.  Paradoxically, there are a lot of big houses just across the river, as well as some huge financial buildings.  I wish this town would put some money into the old buildings instead of building new ones.
We spent most of our afternoon here on the river, where it was cooler.  They had a nice park there with swings, shade, and a view of the river, what more could you ask for?
